Our Food

We use the freshest ingredients available to create classic American fare, cooked to order.
Dine indoors, or enjoy the scenic Chiricahuas on our outdoor covered patio.
Try one of our daily specials paired with a glass of wine or craft beer.

Our culinary chief is Steven Strickland.

Small plates

Start with homemade chips and salsa, guacamole, crispy coconut shrimp, or our signature loaded carne asada fries.

Main courses

Aged Sterling Silver ribeye, whiskey-glazed grilled salmon, fish and chips, and more. Our menu changes frequently.

Burgers

We use only the highest-quality beef and fresh buns in our gourmet burgers. Try our most popular, the Hatch green-chile cheeseburger.

We have a full bar.

Sandwiches & salads

Our deli-inspired sandwiches and garden-fresh salads are the perfect light meal. Try the Portal Pastrami!

Fruit Cobbler

A delicious tradition. Ask for available varieties, and take one to go. Don’t forget to add a scoop of ice cream.

The Lodge

Relax in comfort and quiet at the base of the Sky Island.
Sixteen family- and pet-friendly accommodations in a simple alpine lodge.
Our rooms proudly contain Wifi — but no televisions or telephones.

Room rates

Starting at $95 plus tax per night, every room includes WiFi and climate control. Ask about special packages and rates. Call to make a reservation.

Amenities

We offer clean, comfortable rooms at affordable rates ideal for families. Rooms include Wifi, mini fridges, coffee makers, standard toiletries, climate control, and full baths.

Add-ons

Add a bottle of wine to your stay! Your reservation agent will make sure it’s waiting for you at proper temperature when you arrive.

For five weeks in 1953, Russian novelist and expatriate VLADIMIR NABOKOV finished his novel, “Lolita,” while staying at a cabin a few hundred feet from the Lodge.

The Portal Country Store

We have the region’s largest selection of wine and beer, 13 dedicated freezers, fresh breads and produce, camping supplies, snacks, drinks, and a lot more. We also carry a variety of locally made and unique products to make your visit more convenient and memorable.

Selections will vary based on season and supply. Call ahead for availability.

Explore nature

Sky Islands teem with wildlife: migratory birds, desert reptiles, game animals, and more abound in the area. The Portal Lodge is the perfect base to explore the natural history of the Chiricahua Mountains. Learn more.

Hummingbirds are frequent flyers at the Lodge, with feeders outside every room.

“An extraordinary getaway.”
